Day 1 - León - Cistierna
Dinner and overnight in Cistierna. Day 2 - Cistierna - MercadilloWhile you have breakfast, the train will go from Cistierna to Guardo. Here we will board our coach to visit a Roman villa and the Palentine Romanesque art in Carrión de los Condes. Villalcázar de Sirga and Frómista. Lunch in Villalcázar. Back on the train, we will go from Mataporquera, around the edge of the fascinating Ebro Swamp and the region of Las Merindades, to Mercadillo in the valley of Mena. Dinner and overnight in Mercadillo. Day 3 - Mercadillo - Santander
Lunch. In the afthernoom the train will arrive to Santander, capital of Cantabria, a beautiful coastal city with an enchanting past. Day 4 - Santander - Arriondas
Lunch in Santillana. In the afternoon, we continue by train from Cabezon de la Sal to the province of Asturias where we will visit the beautiful seaside resort town of Llanes, Ribadesella and later we will enjoy dinner in Cangas de Onis. Day 5 – Arriondas – Gijón
Day 6 – Gijón – Luarca
Day 7 – Luarca – ViveiroThis morning we head further along the coast to Ribadeo, the first city of the province of Galicia on the border with Asturias, set magestically on the mouth of the River Eo. Trip by boat on the estuary. The landscape from here along the coast is called the "Rias Altas" or "Upper Estuaries" and is awe-inspiring. Lunch in Ribadeo. In the afternoon we continue by train to Viveiro. Dinner in Viveiro. Day 8 – Viveiro – Santiago
Day 9 – DepartureToday you will board your flight back home. Description of Train:Every suite on El Transcantábrico offers passengers a compartment that is specially designed for rest and privacy. You can sleep in comfort as the train will be parked at a station each night. This means that your sleep will not be disturbed by moving and jolting and also gives those who enjoy nightlife an opportunity to go out and savour the atmosphere of each town. Each compartment is supplied with a complete selection of travel accessories. The electrical power is 220 volts. Every suite-compartment has a double bed and some have the option of an independent upper bunk. All are equipped with a luggage rack, minibar, safe deposit box, wardrobe, writing desk and a telephone with an outside line. The private bathroom has a hydro sauna, turbo massage and steam bath, and a hairdryer. The air-conditioning and heating, piped music and lights are all controlled individually. There is a large picture window in both the suite and the bathroom so that you can enjoy the passing scenery.
